Kim Kardashian reportedly asks court to deny alimony

As most of our Georgia readers probably already know, reality television star Kim Kardashian filed for divorce earlier this week from her husband, professional basketball player Kris Humphries. Few people were shocked by the announcement, although the speed at which it occurred surprised some: the divorce filing was made 72 days after their reported $10 million wedding and just a few weeks after their two-part wedding special aired on the E! network.

One person that was surprised by the divorce filing, however, was Kris Humphries. In a statement to entertainment website TMZ, he said that he was “devastated” to hear that Kardashian had filed for divorce. “I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make it work,” he said.

But it seems that the divorce will go forward, regardless of Humphries’ resistance. In divorce papers filed by Kardashian on Monday, the reality star asked the court to divide all of the couple’s assets in accordance with their prenuptial agreement. The prenup reportedly directs that each spouse keep the assets they brought into the marriage, as well as everything they earned during their brief marriage.

In her divorce filing, Kardashian also preemptively asked the court to reject any request that Humphries makes for alimony. Although it seems inconceivable that a professional athlete would seek spousal support, Humphries is currently unemployed due to the NBA lockout, which shows no signs of ending in the near future. However, the length of a couple’s marriage is usually a factor in a spousal support determination, and with only 72 days of marriage, it is unlikely that such a request would be granted.
