Tony Robbins’ lessons for life after divorce

The decision to divorce is not an easy one. Even if you know that you will be happier in the end, it can be difficult to navigate the many legal and personal challenges that a divorce can present. In addition to family court proceedings, financial changes, and altered living arrangements, a divorce can create a great deal of fear about the future.

Motivational speaker Tony Robbins offers a useful seminar entitled, “Unleash the Power Within,” in which he provides valuable tips for navigating difficult times, including divorce.

Here are a few of Robbins’ tips.

  • The only thing holding you back is the story that you tell yourself about why it can’t happen. Many people limit their possibilities and opportunities for happiness by holding onto the past. Although the facts of a divorce don’t change, realizing that the relationship is in the past and no longer has to be a part of your “story,” can help you look to the future.
  • It is in your moments of decision that your destiny is shaped. Some individuals avoid making decisions, which keeps them from moving forward. Making a decision and committing yourself to the actions required in following through with that decision allows you to set your destiny in motion.
  • When going through a tough time, you are in what can be called a personal “winter”. Like any other season, you will not only get through it, but you can decide to grow through it. Whatever month a personal winter falls in, it can be a dark and difficult time in which many people hibernate, and turn inward. As with the seasons, a personal winter will come to an end allowing you to experience the growth and fresh perspective of a personal “spring.”

An experienced attorney can help you navigate the legal aspects of your divorce, but when all is said and done it’s up to you to move forward and create the life you want. Hopefully, these tips from Tony can help.
