Sheen oweds big on child support for twin sons

After divorce papers were finalized on Tuesday, Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller have officially untied the knot. Unfortunately for Charlie Sheen, it was quite an expensive knot to untie.

According to Daily Mail, Mueller was awarded $55,000 per month in child support in addition to a lump sum of $757,698.70, plus an additional $1 million for her share of the marital home, which the Sheen will keep.

Sheen and Mueller-his third wife-were married back in May of 2008, but Sheen filed for divorce last year after several domestic violence incidents. He was arrested in December 2009 when police responded to a domestic violence call, and he later pleaded guilty to assaulting Mueller, who said he pulled a knife on her and threatened to kill her. Both Sheen and Mueller have a history of substance abuse. Sheen’s issues are well known, and Mueller has entered rehab for a crack cocaine addiction as well as alcohol addiction.

The divorce settlement comes shortly after Sheen lost his request for custody of his twin sons by Mueller last month. The judge in that case said that the best interests of the children in light of “abuse and other inflammatory and emotional issues” influence the outcome of that case. Sheen and Mueller now share custody of the children according to their existing agreements.

Sources said that the settlement documents contain the language, “Under no circumstances shall the child support paid by Charlie for Bob and Max be less than the child support paid by Charlie to Denise Richards for Sam and Lola.”

Child support payments in Georgia are determined based on a number of factors, including the age of the children, medical and educational costs, daycare costs, the custody arrangement, ability to pay, the contributions of each parents, and previous living standard.

While Sheen’s situation is interesting and unique it is a good example of what can happen in high-asset divorces. True, the Sheen event has a lot more drama than is usual, but should we expect any less?
