Some common lessons that are learned through the divorce process

There are some tried and true experiences that seem to be fairly common for people who are divorcing. They occur universally, to people in Georgia and everywhere else. Unfortunately, like many things in life most people have to experience the lessons of divorce by themselves – no amount of outside advice will necessarily bring those truths any closer to fruition. According to a group of experts and divorcing individuals writing in The Huffington Post divorce section, here are some of the common lessons to be learned.

Initially, the shock of confronting the destruction of a long-term relationship that was built on dreams of romance, family and growing together can be formidable to most persons, male or female. Emotions tend to pour out at this traumatic point in life. They can bring mood swings that are like a roller coaster ride.

At such times, most people may benefit by turning to trusted family and friends for sustenance, support and understanding. There will always be those who care, and those who can provide an empathetic level of support. Conversely, one should be prepared to learn the hard truth that many others will not care or will not be able to take the person's feelings into consideration.

That reality, however, is something that probably applies in all areas of life, not just with respect to the experience of divorce. It's something that people learn to adjust to as part of the maturation process. In any event, with the help of one's sympathetic supporters, a person finds the strength to get up each day and go forward with the rest of his or her life.

The obstacle of divorce is like other major challenges -- a person moves forward with courage and finds that the wall of resistance can be melted down eventually. Ultimately, the saving lesson of divorce for those in Georgia and everywhere else is that there is indeed a light at the end of the tunnel. The persistence and courage of moving forward within a new framework for living, despite occasional lapses, leads to a stronger person and a greater life ahead.
